Installing Rails Canonical

 on Monday, April 01, 2013

Rel canonical is the addition of the code stored in the template blog that aims to prevent duplicate content, which revents absorption of pages with the same content in a different url address. rel canonical has a function similar to disabling the blog archive, without using the canonical Google search engine will find it hard to prioritize search results.

To install the rails canonical on blogspot, the following steps:
  1. Login to your blogger dashboard then = >> = >> edit html design
  2. You find the following code <head>
  3. Place the following code under the code <head>

  4. <link expr:href='data:blog.url' rel='canonical'/>
  5. Continue to save
Simple!

Perhaps the mounting rails so seemingly simple canonical, unlike other Search Engine Optimization tricks are so complicated, but know that the rel canonical has quite a complicated explanation. If you do not want to know, it's not a problem, but it could not hurt anyway, in order to optimize SEO Friendly, we need to really master the subject-the subject matter is in SEO Optimization although it was limited to the understanding and knowing the term alone, the no we are not blind and haphazard in doing SEO optimization techniques. Below I will explain a little about the rel canonical, the extent of my knowledge were sampled from wikipedia. canonical rel canonical is an HTML element that helps webmasters to prevent duplicate content issues with determining the "canonical" or "preferred" version of a web page as part of search engine optimization.

Duplicate content is a term used in the field of search engine optimization to describe the content that appears more than one on a web page. Duplicate content can be a substantial part of the content within or domain and can be exactly duplicate. When multiple pages in the website contain the same, basically a search engine such as Google can penalize or stop the delivery of that site in the search results are relevant, because it is considered as spam. So the punishment was not due to duplicate content, but rather because of the spam.

Duplicate content is divided into two by type are:

  • Duplicate Content and Non Hazardous
  • Duplicate malicious content.

Non-hazardous types of duplicate content could include variations of the same page, such as the version optimized for HTML, mobile device, or printer-friendliness, or store items that can be displayed through several different URLs. Duplicate content problems can also arise when a site accessible under a subdomain, such as with or without the "www." or where the site fails to handle the trailing slash from the URL correctly. Duplicate content refers to content that is harmful accidentally duplicated in an attempt to manipulate search results and get more traffic. This is known as search spam is to move the alias "301 redirect" Permanently is a method of dealing with duplicate content to drive users and search engine crawlers to a single version of the relevant content.

What Can You Do About Duplicate Content?
To minimize the duplicat content we do these tricks that I took from about.com
The first thing you should do is to avoid creating it in the first place. But once you have it, there are several things you can do to reduce the load on the search engines and help your site indexed better:

  1. Use permanent redirect. 301 redirects tell the search engine spiders that the page has moved permanently, so that they will remove the old URL from their index and replaced it with a new one.
  2. Use noindex on content syndication. Ask the people who use your syndicated content to include a noindex meta tag in your article so that duplicate content is not included in the search engine index.
  3. Avoid repeating boilerplate copy. If you have a page that has a long string of copyright or other boilerplate information at the bottom, it is better to move the content to a separate page, and links to your content pages.
  4. Extending the same content page. If you have a page that has very similar information - like travel sites with limited information about the city - you should add to your page to provide more information about this unique topic page. If you can not do that, you have to incorporate the same page together.
  5. Provide more unique content. If you run an affiliate website, it can be tempting to just copy and paste the details of the product from stores, such as Amazon, to your page, but it does not add any value so that the search engine will only link to the original site instead. By providing unique content about your product, your site will avoid duplication site shop and get your pages rank better.
  6. Use rel = canonical. It is the connection link that Google (and maybe some other search engines) are used to determine the version of the content item. This is a way to tell the search engines that the page is the parent page and any copies shall be subject to this one

But one important note to the bloggers actually, if you do not want to happen duplicate content, is to try to make his own writings, a lot of reading and learning to write, will keep us from the occurrence of duplicate content.
